Christmas Spirit

Christmas Spirit
The North Pole Express was about to pull out of the station. I was busy shooting the scene. Later upon looking over the shots closely, in only one shot there is an image of a pale little girl dressed in white at the top of the stairs on the train platform. She does not appear in any image snapped moments before or after. She appeared as the North Pole Express was just about to pull away from the station. She is looking at this wonderful Christmas train. I don't know if she was a spirit of a little girl or an angel who comes to see the North Pole Express. Perhaps she was just a little girl dressed in white. But there is no clue where she came from or where she went between the images before this image was captured and next shutter click a moment after. I submit for your approval this image named "Christmas Spirit". Merry Christmas to all and Happy Holidays. Please view large.

MINOTAUR ROCKET LAUNCH FROM WALLOPS ISLAND, VA. NIGHT LAUNCH COULD BE SEEN FROM MOST OF THE EASTERN UNITED STATES

U.S. Air Force Minotaur 1 rocket that lifted off from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility at 8:15 p.m. EST on Nov. 19, 2013. I was able to catch a few shots from Bucks County, Pennsylvania as it was going over the Atlantic off the coast of New Jersey. At this distance, only the rocket flame was visible. This shot taken with a 400mm lens and professional camera set at a high ISO. The speckles in this shot are noise from the high ISO setting. Still, the shots are not bad considering the great distance I was from the rocket.

Here is the NASA video footage of the launch.

City of Angels RockFest 2013

The City of Angels RockFest was held at Mercer County Park, a short drive across the river into New Jersey. Similar to the idea of Farm Aid  concerts helping  farmers, the City of Angels Rockfest is an annual rock concert event to support the City of Angels organization in their mission of helping people recovering from both alcohol and drug addiction.  The event brings in many bands for a day of great music and food. There was also a BBQ cook off and a car and motorcycle show. You’ll have to check out the shot of Elmo riding in on the back of a motorcycle and high fiving the kids. It was a great time for all. Here are a few shots from this awesome event..

The Dusty Rivers Band

No New Jersey rock concert event would be complete without the Dusty River's Band bringing us that great  New Jersey rock sound to get us all in the mood for good rock'n'roll.

Wednesday's Walk Through New Hope

My usual walk through New Hope starts with parking near the Triumph Brewery. The Triumph is a great stop, I suggest their beer sampler if you like beer, all beer is brewed on site and there is a complete bar and restaurant with great food. They also have live bands on the weekends.

Tempting as it is to stop in and have a beer, I passed today and will leave the Triumph for a future Blog project when I have time to devote to sampling all the beer. :-) Behind the Triumph Brewing company I walk across the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad train tracks. There is usually activity on the railroad and a few interesting photo opportunities.

Wednesday is a good day to visit New Hope to avoid the weekend crowds. There are still plenty of people doing things during the week, but not overly crowded. If you have ever been to New Hope on a Saturday, it can seem like you are a sardine in a can with the thousands of people who visit New Hope every weekend, especially in the summer season.

Sunset Triangle, Conjunction of Venus, Jupiter and Mercury

Venus, Jupiter and Mercury Dance in the Sky

The planets Venus, Jupiter and Mercury danced in the sky just after sunset on Sunday, May 26th. Today's photos were taken from Northampton Municipal Park in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Triple conjunctions of planets are fairly rare. According to NASA the next triple conjunction of planets will be in October of 2015.

The Universe from a Frog's Perspective

Looking up the universe so vast and large. Proportional in a kind of Fibonacci Sequence of scale, I think to where we are in our place in the universe in both size and intelligence. It makes me wonder what it must be like looking at us like we do the frog.
